Investment Officer Training

First Public has formed an alliance with Texas State University to help our government clients fulfill their investment officer training requirements more conveniently and cost-effectively.

Through a range of online courses, the university allows you to earn your required hours of investment officer training, dependent upon the type of government entity at your own pace, from your home or office.

Simply visit the university's website, customize your curriculum, register, and you're on your way. Once your books arrive in the mail, you'll have eight weeks to finish the online coursework. When you're done, you'll receive your certificate of completion in the mail. No travel or time away from home—just results.

Public Funds Investment Act

Certain rules under the Texas Public Funds Investment Act require the treasurer, the chief financial officer (if the treasurer is not the CFO), and the investment officer of a local government to comply with the following training requirements.

Municipalities and School Districts

  • Initial Training: 10 hours within the first 12 months
  • Renewal Training: Eight hours every two years
  • Two Year Training Period: Based on Entity's fiscal year

Other Local Governments

  • Initial Training: 10 hours within the first 12 months
  • Renewal Training: 10 hours every two years
  • Two Year Training Period: Based on Entity's fiscal year

  • Security Risks
  • Strategy Risks
  • Market Risks
  • Diversification on Investment Portfolio
  • Compliance with the Public Funds Investment Act (PFIA)
